Reina's Thoughts on Skyscrapers
From the moment I saw the paper materials on the table I got excited. Being tasked with a creative assignment, building a skyscraper out of limited materials; paper, staples, and tape was empowering. At the end of the class when we discussed the reasons for such a task the obvious responses were given, teamwork, bonding, delegation of tasks, fun yet productive, etc. A big take away was that the skills we exhibited in this assignment should transfer over when we assemble tech instruments. However, what was not mentioned was how this creative task is different from all the "techy" ones that we do. What was so exciting about this "skyscraper assignment" was that there was no right way to do it. All creative approaches were successful. With the tech set-up, however, there is only one way to do it. A certain plug must be put in the correct input/output. There is a right way and a wrong way. The creative aspect of the course is in the art we produce utilizing the technology. However, there is only one way to set up those devices.

Actually there are many ways to set up the equipment. Not to mention which equipment you choose for the task. All of the selections you make can affect they delivery time i.e. latency. Also which piece of equipment you select will limit or open up possibilities of your artistic presentation.
ReplyDeleteHmm. I guess set-up, where something goes has various possibilities. A camera can be placed in the corner, off-stage, on-stage, handheld, etc. However, there is only one way to put the battery in or only one possibility for where a power cord attaches to the camera. In class, we have consecutively set up the cameras in the same fashion; 4 cameras (one in each corner), projector, video mixer, and computer. We've used built in equipment as well as set up on the table. Hopefully when we begin to discuss our individual projects more possibilities will be introduced. In addition, we can begin to play with delivery time and other ways to vary the outcome of using the technologies.
DeleteOne thing that is clear is that I have a lot more to learn regarding the set-up and use of these technologies.
